Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Have yourself a merry little christmas

I talked with John, Mark and Gloring about a scene I imagined with this song. Here’s the cheerful Christmas story.

He was blindly staring at the glowing fire. Little fireflies dancing in the fervent yellow lights. He loved the crackling sound those tongues of fires made. He did not understand it nor was he aware of it. But somewhere, it touched him. His eyes drifted to the four stockings by the fireplace. Beautiful socks in green, red and yellow.  But he’s never felt more alone and peaceful in his life. What is it with Christmas that makes one heart long for the years long gone. He stood up, put the vinyl in the turntable and like those little dancing fireflies, the song filled the room. He sit back, rested his back in the black sofa and closed his eyes. With eyes closed, blindly staring at the glowing fire, he took the revolver beside him, put it on his head and pulled the trigger.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

Through the years
We all will be together,
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now.

  1. This is probably one of the best Christmas songs I’ve ever heard. It makes me all teary-eyed.

  3. It’s one of my faves, too.

Thanks ardee. The header is actually inspired by Gone With the Wind.

The comments? Yes, I think ganon tlg yon.

  4. its almost too scary, but the scene you describe reminds me of a story told to me by a friend about his fiance’s grandfather who killed himself to “blue christmas” by elvis. i briefly summed it up here (where i also link to mariah’s “all i want for christmas is you”, but never knew it was the most downloaded xmas tune till i read your recent post of her doing “o holy night”, so thank you for posting that!).

  5. Lonely and Peaceful. Those were the only worldly descriptions I could muster describing Christmas air. Somehow I could imagine what happened to him.

As far as I know, “All I Want for Christmas is You” has been consistent in topping the charts when Billboard incorporated digital sales. It’s also one of the most played Christmas songs ever.
